Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) is an independent, not-for-profit, medical research institute dedicated to improving the lives of people living with brain and nervous system disorders.
For many of the 10 million Australians living with a neurological disorder, medical research offers the only hope.
Our vision is to improve the health and lives of those living with brain and nervous system disorders.
Emma Tinkler’s life changed dramatically at 33 when diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Over a decade later, worsening symptoms like difficulty walking and tremors led to another life-altering diagnosis at 45: early-onset Parkinson’s disease. Thanks to an effective medication plan, Emma soon transitioned from using a mobility scooter to walking her daughters to school (pictured together, left) again, celebrating these moments as significant achievements.
As a self-proclaimed "fan girl of medical research," Emma not only serves as the guide for our virtual tour but has also participated in several NeuRA studies. Despite ongoing health challenges, Emma remains committed to supporting medical research. “I'm passionate about medical research and funding research so that we can give better treatment options and find the cures we need.”
